Spatter

Arc stability and spatter are related in the sense that a less stable arc leads to more spatter. Small spatter is not so harmful, because it solidifies without sticking to the surface of the plate. Large spatter, however, solidifies onto the plate and needs to be removed, which is time consuming and costly.

The graph above compares spatter behavior of OK AristoRod™ and high quality copper coated wire, revealing a striking difference in the amount of spatter. Spatter is measured by welding between copper collector boxes and weighing the collected spatter.
